Louisiana-Monroe’s 34-31 OT victory over No. 8 Arkansas wasn’t just a triumph for the Warhawks, but a triumph for the entire Sun Belt Conference.

Before yesterday, the Sun Belt’s record vs. AP ranked opponents was 1-104.

Troy has the Sun Belt’s only other victory over a ranked opponent. In 2004, Troy beat No. 19 Missouri 24-14.

After last night, the Sun Belt’s record vs. ranked opponents is 2-105 for a winning percentage of .019; the worst by any conference in the FBS. Followed by the MAC (.097 W Pct), and Conference USA (.154 W Pct).

On a per game average, the Sun Belt has been outscored 44-12 by ranked opponents, and has been shutout 18 times in such games. However, on six occasions they were only a touchdown short of beating a ranked opponent.

Against opponents ranked in the top 10, the Sun Belt is 1-45 (.022 W Pct), and the closest a team from the Sun Belt ever came to beating a top 10 team, was back in 2006, when Troy lost to No. 9 Florida St. 24-17. The closest the Sun Belt has ever come to defeating a top 10 team from the SEC, was in 2007, when Troy lost to No. 10 Georgia 44-34.

By the way, the Sun Belt has never had a team ranked in the AP Poll.
